Apples & Horses & Nuts - Oh My!

Writer's picture: Linda MarieLinda Marie

Our little group of two became four as Kathryn and Andreas joined the party. We met in Erfurt, took the train to Stadtilm, and set out to follow the Ilm River along the Ilmtal Radweg. Andreas took the lead, which was a welcome change for me.

We stopped for the creatures, great and small.

We stopped for the scenery.

We stopped to gather apples. We stopped to feed the apples to horses.

We stopped to harvest hazelnuts and eat ice cream.

We stopped to let a wagon and team of horses pass. I swear the driver looked just like the Wizard of Oz. For the rest of our ride, I felt like Dorothy with her friends, exploring a new world that seemed incredibly familiar at the same time. "We're off to see the River, the wonderful River of Ilm..."

If a picture is worth a thousand words, perhaps this short video is worth a few keystrokes. Enjoy a glimpse of an alternative Oz!
