Field Trip!

Ice skating! That was the draw. Madame shared with us earlier in the week that there is a skating rink on the top of Paris's tallest sky scraper, Montparnasse Tower, and that the last day to ice skate was this Sunday. So after class today, Ron and I and two new friends from class headed off for an adventure. Metro, lunch, an elevator to the 56th Floor, and a BUNCH of stairs. Fun fact: there is no ice on the roof. Perhaps there was earlier in the season, but today we found only large hard plastic tiles the color of frozen water, and placed in an oval to resemble an ice-skating rink. The "ice skates" were what we in America would call roller-blades. But no matter, because it was a gorgeous day, no rain, lots of sun, cold and windy. The wind pushed us along on our "skates", and I am happy to report that we didn't knock down a single child. But the highlight of the afternoon was the view. It was just magnificent. We could see the Eiffel Tower (which was STILL taller than we were), the Arc de Triumph, Invalides, Sacred Heart on Montmontre, Père Lachaise Cemetery, Notre Dame, Bois de Vincennes, and my favorite - Saint Sulpice with its unmistakable mismatched towers. As the afternoon sped by, the clouds sped in, and the temperature dropped, forcing us finally to resume our position at a more respectable elevation.

TGIF - tomorrow, we sleep!

Yes, that is the Eiffel Tower coming out of Ron's hat!
