One of the joys of travel is re-living the memory of a place when it unexpectedly appears in a movie, TV commercial or magazine advertisement. "We were there!"
We recently watched Midnight in Paris. What a fun movie! We actually played the opening sequence a few times, recognizing each and every Paris scene.
The longer we live in Paris, the more familiar Paris becomes. One of our favorite Sunday afternoon destinations is Rue Mouffetard, near the Latin Quarter. So we were watching Midnight in Paris, and Gil (played by Owen Wilson) is lost and wandering around, and we know where he is! He is on Rue Mouffetard, near the very old church at the top of the street, Saint-Étienne-du-Mont.
Below are pictures of the lost Gil, and of Ron, who knows exactly where he is. Ron is the one on the right...
Here is the link to the scene when Gil is "rescued" by a car arriving at the church steps, which will transport him to the 1920's : https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SX4bB_3tLdQ
Ron and his son Eben actually met Owen Wilson about 15 years ago, when they were seated next to each other at a lunch counter in Westwood, California. Ron had no idea that the young blonde "surfer-dude" was a famous actor. And now their paths cross again!
Nice!!!
