Row, row, row your boat

Writer's picture: Linda MarieLinda Marie

Our last visitors were our youngest, Sarah, and her best childhood friend, Nicky. Since they were little girls, the two had schemed of taking a trip abroad when they turned 18. Well, that crazy dream finally became a reality, and a few weeks before they turned 19 the two spent a week with us exploring Paris! The girls headed out each morning armed with their Metro passes, cell phones, cameras and water bottles, and they did not miss much, even managing trips to Paris Disney and Versailles. Every evening they would return with stories about their day. On market day, they stayed with us here in the neighborhood, shopping the market and local stores, and exploring the nearby forest, the Bois de Vincennes. In the middle of the Forest is Lake Daumesnil, which has two islands connected to the surrounding land by foot bridges. The swans on the lake were as large as the toddlers on the shore tossing bread to them. We took a row boat out on the water and took turns at the oars.

Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream.
